Division 1 - Llandysul 0 v 6 Maesglas

This result may be an added nail to the coffin of Llandysuls' relegation from the top flight, as Maesglas easily swept the Swallows away in a comfortable six goals without reply. Llandysuls' poor season seemed to be picking up with a good display against Cardigan after they went down 3 -2 the previous week.

But in the first twenty minutes against Maesglas they were already 3 goals down, with Darren Davies finally getting on the score-sheet  since his Aberporth days, and it was a classy goal too, with the ball played into his feet, Davies flicked the ball around the defender and he hit the ball into the bottom corner. A good goal to end his goal scoring drought. Davies had a hand in the second too, by winning a penalty, which centre half for the day Matthew Smith converted. Aled Rees grabbed the third after a defence splitting pass, Rees ran 30 yards to slide pass his goal passed the oncoming keeper.
3 nil up and cruising. But as always it’s about “how many more can we get”, and when this seems to kick in the game plan goes out the window, the football until the break got very sloppy  from both sides, which was very frustrating to watch after such a good opening 20 minutes.

There were chances which should have been finished and frustrating off side decisions which if runs had been timed without haste then further goals may have been added to the Maesglas tally.

At the break it was still 3 nil. Llandysul opened the second half in good spirit and started to dig in, and one effort brought off one great save from Maesglas keeper Graham Keen, a headed effort from a corner was headed towards the top corner but Keen managed to finger tip the effort away for a another corner. After this good spell from Llandysul started to wane, Maesglas rung the changes by bringing on substitutes Emlyn George, Adam Cole and the manager himself had a run out. The game opened up and George found himself in acres of space on two occasions and finished off clinically, 5-0 up and one more added before the ninety, Llifon Howell nipped in at the far post to finish in style.

A result which had been deserved from the first minute, as the football played for a good hour was of good quality, with young Jack Davies, Wyn Morgan and Dai Cole pulling the punches in midfield it lay the platform for a good result and keeper Keen and the back four were comfortable throughout the day, with Matthew Smith and Daf George looking a decent centre half partnership, with youngsters Rhys Davies and Mark James playing the football from the back and creating inroads for the midfield and strikers. The front runners of Aled Rees, Darren Davies and Llifon Howell working ever so hard to create the opportunities for themselves, and the six goals were a good reward and also keeping a clean sheet was an added bonus. Next up though next week a trip to Llanddewi Brefi where the Stars will be trying to Shine and give the Maesglas the Blues!!
